THE NEW HARMONY BAPTIST CHURCH

 MEMBERSHIP COVENANT

Having received Christ as my Lord and Savior and been baptized, and being in agreement with New Harmony Baptist Church’s statements, strategy and structure, I now feel led by the Holy Spirit to unite with the New Harmony Baptist Church family. In doing so, I commit myself to God and to the other members to do the following:

 I. I WILL PROTECT THE UNITY OF MY CHURCH

…By acting in love toward other members

…By refusing to gossip

…By following the leaders

  • “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” Romans 14:19 (KJV)
  • “Finally, bretheren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoevver things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any any praise, think of these things.” Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
  • “Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus .” Romans 15:5 (KJV)
  • “Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto enfeigned love of the brethen, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.” I Peter 1:22 (KJV)
  • “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Ephesians 4:29 (KJV)

II. I WILL SHARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF MY CHURCH

…By praying for its growth

…By inviting the unchurched to attend

…By warmly welcoming those who visit

  • “Obey them that have rule over you and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you." Hebrews 13:17 (KJV)

  • “We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers.” I Thessalonians 1:2 (KJV)

  • “Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel.” Philippians 1:27 (KJV)

§         “And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in,  that my house may be filled.” Luke 14:23 (KJV)

  • “Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.” Romans 15:7 (KJV)

III. I WILL SERVE THE MINISTRY OF MY CHURCH

…By discovering my gifts and talents

…By being equipped to serve by my pastors

…By developing a servant’s heart

  • “Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful creator.” I Peter 4:19 (KJV)

  • “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelist; and some, pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…” Ephesians 4:11-13

  • “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bond servant, and coming in the likeness of men. …” Philippians 2:1-7

IV. I WILL SUPPORT THE TESTIMONY OF MY CHURCH

…By attending faithfully

…By living a godly life

…By giving regularly

§         “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

  • “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whither I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence. I will know that you stand firm, in our spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel.” Philippians 1:27

  • “On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come.” I Corinthians 16:2 (KJV)

  • “And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord’s: it is holy unto the Lord.” Leviticus 27:30 (KJV)
